Celebration on St. Claude!

Hurricane Ida hit New Orleans on August 29, 2021. Three weeks later, we put together Celebration on St. Claude, a Hurricane Ida relief party that took over three different bars on the same corner.
The Allways Lounge,
Carnaval Lounge (at the time),
and Hi-Ho Lounge,

From 5pm to midnight, you could catch live music, comedy, drag, burlesque, variety shows, and a mask-on dance party.

DJ Siren spun at Hi-Ho. Betsy Propane gave pay-what-you-can haircuts. Vendors set up outside Carnaval and Allways. The rain stopped just in time. So many different parts of the community ended up in the same room, in the face of so much bullshit and grief, and transforming that into something joyful.

I’m still in awe of it.
